Part Three

Detective Steve Kracker is a tough, by the book, veteran.
Detective Cabrodine Jack is a cop with a tragic past, a ladies man, and cool as an arctic cucumber.

The physical evidence collected from the murder scene, the drug baggie, lead Steve and Cabrodine to Stephen "Groove Time" Moreno.  A known dealer and dangerous individual that was rarely without some sort of bodyguard around.  Tonight was no exception.

The place evidence, the wrapper, lead them to a specific street outside of the Bobo Bats restaurant the wrapper came from.  The neighborhood was rough, not the sort of place a couple of cops were going to blend into very well.

Arriving on site, the two detectives exit their car and immediately spot their suspect.  He's not hiding, in fact, he's standing right in the streetlight.
"We play this cool, Jack.  Maybe we can get close enough to grab him before he sees us."
"You the only one playing cool, Kracker. I don't need to play to be what I am."
"Right on, Cab, right on."

"Hey, you think them guys with guns is anything to worry about boss?"

Steve and Cabrodine walk nonchalantly down the street, strutting along trying to be incognito. This neighborhood isn't one where cops can blend in, and they really didn't.  Moreno was looking the other way while they approached but casually turned before the detectives could close in, and he easily noticed them. Probably felt the chill from Cabrodine's cool approaching.

"Cheese it, man, it's the fuzz! Billy, hold 'em off, I'm outta here!"
Moreno turned and took off at a dead run, pushing into the crowd to try and lose the approaching officers.  He was moving fast, but the bodies were slowing him up.
Billy decided he wasn't quite that loyal, so he also turned and fled into the crowd just on the heels of his boss.

Disco chase music erupting in their minds, Steve and Cabrodine took off, booking it after the running dealers.  Cabrodine reached the edge of the crowd first, the people there pointing in the dealer's direction yelling "There he is, there he is!"
Steve caught up and ran into the crowd, easily spotting the big bodyguard, and tackling him to the ground.  The crowd was point and yelling to him as he cuffed the guy; "He went that way! There, there!"
Moreno doesn't have many friends around here apparently.  Even so, he managed to push through the crowd and started running again.

Cabrodine backed up and ran around the milling mass of people while Steve pushed on through, but neither could catch up to the dealer.  The race was intense, their feet pounding across the dark pavement, people in the crowd still calling out, and Moreno still keeping just out of reach!

"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for them cops than the pesky car!"

Suddenly a car moved into view from behind a building, it hit the breaks and screeched to a stop when it saw Moreno there. Fortunately he saw the car too, since it didn't stop nearly fast enough, and he avoided being hit.  But stopping at all put an end to his flight.  Slamming his hands on the car in frustration, Moreno turned around with his hands in the air.
