We worked hard on the rules, and we felt they were good, but in a playtest you expect to locate a number of issues. That's what a test is for, to point out oversights or problem areas.
I'm very happy to report that the rules played exceptionally well, and we uncovered no major flaws at all. I assure you, it was not for lack of trying.
We played six games in total. The first two were straight up German vs. Russian "death match" games, no objective except to eliminate the other guys. We played twice, I was German first and Russian second. That demostrated that the mechanics worked properly. I also lost both times, which shows there is no bias either way.
The third game was the British vs. the Germans in a Search and Destroy mission, which I lost. Fourth was an Ambush scenario with the British ambushing the Germans, and I also lost that one.
Fifth was a Retrival game, German vs. American. I lost again. Last was the same game but we changed sides, I finally won!
It was a superior success! We located a few places where we felt the rules needed to be re-worded to make things more clear, and we adjusted two charts, but over all there was little we needed to change.
Look for a report of the Search and Destroy Game later on.
It appears that a two-player game, with a full squad of 9 figures per side, is completed in an average of 60 minutes. That is excellent, and is truly what we were shooting for!
