I've developed a new set of miniatures rules based on one of the video games we've created.
The figures aren't done, so we have proxies. The terrain isn't done, so we have proxy terrain.
No markers, just proxies.
But, of course, if the rules don't work then none of that stuff is needed. So playtesting it is!
I've tested the game solo, and made a few tweaks. So next was a playtest with another player, and that was a bit of an issue. Eric hasn't been able to come down for a while, so we needed another method.
So we played a game last night using Skype and a web cam, me moving the miniatures and Eric watching and directing on the computer. It worked pretty well, really. It was a bit odd playing that way, but it was still very fun and was quite close to playing a normal game. I think it would be a fun thing to do more of, and it's pretty simple to do.
Best of all the rules worked well. We made a few tweaks to refine things, made some things more clear, but overall the game did what it was supposed to do and did it well. I think it gave the proper feeling, which is important.
So now it's full speed on the figures, terrain, and markers! Well, almost full speed. There are a number of other things I'm painting and building for too, but definitely The Majority of Available Speed!
