Super Mission Force, game one!
A couple of weeks back, over on Lead Adventure Forum, I won a "contest" for a copy of the Super Mission Force rules. I got them in the mail Wednesday, and set to reading them right off. I played my first game tonight, and I have to say, these rules are awesome! Trust me, I've tried more than a few, even wrote some, but these are really good!
I didn't want a straight slug-fest, those aren't interesting, so I setup a small scenario. The villains are looking for something, it may be at one of six places. Once they find it, they need to leave the board from their edge. The heroes don't know (or care, really) what the thing is, they just can't let the villains have it.
The Heroes! Left to right. AmericaDabra, Smoke N' Dagger, Kong-Fu, and Maxotaur.
The Villains! Left to right. Lord Gourd, Fire Head*, The Parrot, and Hydra-olic Behind are Lord Gourds minions.
* I spent more time trying to come up with a name than I did making all the guys and setting up the table, so I just gave up and called him Fire Head.
The villains fan out to search the markers. Fire Head resolves one marker on his first move, but finds nothing. The Heroes simply advance.
The Parrot resolves a second marker, and he found it! The object is...um, a box! (because that's the first object I found).
Smoke N' Dagger isn't about to let the villains have such a valuable(?) prize! He swoops up to the roof top and lands a three Hit blow, knocking The Parrot back and sending him sprawling.
Hydra-olic pulls himself up to the roof and tries to entangle the wispy hero, but can't get a grip on him.
AmericaDabra flies to the rooftop and uses the Lure of Freedom spell (telekinesis) to pull the box to himself. Fire Head flies overhead and throws fire at the star-spangled wizard, but can't land a shot.
Meanwhile, in the streets below, Maxotaur leaps in to attack Lord Gourd. With a death from Above attack, his mighty blow lays Lord Gourd out completely. Ten Hits, but only four saved. The KO check was failed. Lord Gourd is KOed.
Gourd's minions surge forward to avenge their fallen leader, surrounding the mighty armored hero and nearly felling him with six Hits! His armor stopped one, so he only takes five of his Eight.
Maxotaur fights back, knocking out five of the henchmen. Kong-Fu finally catches up, and lays out the remaining five!
The Parrot regains his feet and goes after AmericaDabra, unleashing a pounding Sonic Screech that wounds the wizards mind! (4 hits on Psyche!)
Smoke N' Dagger summons his namesake smoke to envelope himself and his magical ally. (obscure)
Fire Head circles in the air trying desperately to locate the box carrying hero, but he can't find him!
(The Parrot has Enhanced Senses, so he probably could have. I didn't think of that until after I already moved Fire Head though.)
AmericaDabra casts Manifest Destiny (teleport) and finds himself close, but not at, the table edge.
Fire Head sees him appear...
... so flies over and blasts the hapless sorcerer with an explosive ball of fire that throws him off the roof! Fortunately AmericaDabra was able to grab the ledge and somehow skitter/slide down the wall. No falling damage, no knockdown, but he did lose the box.
Smoke N' Dagger dodges another entangling attempt, and delivers a nice punch to Hydra-olic (two Hits), knocking him backwards off the roof. Three Hits in falling damage, and he's knocked down.
Maxotaur and Kong-Fu see Fire Head grab the box, so move up to the rooftops in anticipation of what's to come. The Parrot squawks ineffectively at Smoke N' Dagger.
Fire Head has grabbed the box, and is flying back to his board edge! He takes a pot shot at Maxotaur, dropping the armored heroes Body to 0, but he passes the KO check and is still standing! Maxotaur in turn Leaps into the air, passing close enough to strike with his hammer! Bam! Fire Head is hit for 3, knocked back 12", and "falls down", so drops to the ground. Amazingly, he takes no damage from the fall! But, of course, he dropped the box.
Hydra-olic gets up and starts toward the box, only to have Kong-Fu bound up the wall and deliver a damaging blow that knocks him back and really, really, hurts! His Body is at 0, but he passed the KO check! Only his will is keeping him standing now!
The Parrot streaks through the air to get the box, but can't get close enough! AmericaDabra manages to recharge his telekinesis spell, and once again pulls the box to himself. He flies off the table with the box of whatever, keeping it safely away from the villains! Heroes win!
I really, really like this game. It plays fast, it's fun, it gives the "superhero feel", there isn't any more you could ask from it!
I'm looking forward to playing some more.

If you want to be a hero, you have to learn to Pose. |
