Starfighters! Mission 3

 

Mission 3: Head Hunt

Falling Star 1 – Bridget “BoomBoom” Sokul (replacing Raven 1 this mission due to a damaged fighter)
Raven 2 – Brizzy Joyce 
Raven 3 – Giovanni Swisshelm
Raven 4 – Melissa Martinek

    Command has authorized a kill mission for a particular pilot, Anvil 1. He's shown himself to be a real problem, and they would like him eliminated.  They have intel on where he will be, and when, and are sending a squadron to bring him down.
    Raven squadron has the job.  Jazzly, Raven 1, isn't flying with the squadron. Her fighter is still damaged from their last mission. She taps the Falling Stars flight leader, Bridget Sokul, to lead the Ravens this time.


    "Ravens all, move in, watch the asteroids, and remember Anvil 1 is the mission!" Sokul addresses the squadron while engaging her booters.  Brizzy and Giovanni stay on her tail, while Melissa goes wide around the asteroids to flank.
    Lasers flash at long range. Giovanni scores several hits on Anvil 2, but the tough fighter shields deflect them.  Brizzy uses her lightning fast reflexes to dodge shots at the last second.


    BoomBoom locks on to Anvil 2 and launches two missiles. Anvil 2 shoots one down right away, leaving only one on target.  Brizzy drives straight at Anvil 2, lasers streaming. The intense barrage forces Anvil 2 to break off from the fight and leave the area.


    Anvil 1 swoops around the asteroids, and with well placed shots, blows away Raven 4.  Melissa ejects from the fighter before it erupts in flames.


    Anvil 3 launches a torpedo at BoomBoom, but she shoots it down. Then launches one right back at him without any time for him to react; it misses!  Brizzy dives in and shoots up Anvil 3, damaging the fighter. 


    Anvil 2 doesn't seem to be returning, which is fine with the Ravens. Probably not fine with Anvil 1, but he'll deal with that if he gets home.
    Anvil 3 lines up on BoomBoom, but doesn't do anything. Torpedo malfunction!
    Brizzy burns in and engages Anvil 3 in a dogfight. Anvil 3 exits the swirling melee with damage, but he doesn't have time to worry about it for long.


    BoomBoom rolls hard starboard and slams a torpedo into Anvil 3 at terribly short range. The fighter explodes! Anvil 3 is down, Anvil 2 has fled, that leaves only their primary target.
    Anvil 1 chases down Giovanni and shoots holes in his fighter, damaging it.


    Anvil 1 weathers some return fire from Giovanni, but there's no damage. He pulls into a hard turn and launches two torpedoes at BoomBoom.  Brizzy is able to shoot down one, but can't get both. BoomBoom can't bring her guns to bear, so she hits the boost to try and outrun the torpedo.


    BoomBoom keeps running from the torpedo, she's keeping ahead of it, but it's moving her away from the fight.  Brizzy and Giovanni fire ineffectually at Anvil 1.


    The torpedo timed out, BoomBoom is safe, but pretty far out. 
Brizzy fires on Anvil 1, again ineffectually.  Anvil 1 returns fire much more accurately, destroying Raven 2 outright.


    Giovanni, possibly distracted by his friend exploding, flies straight into an asteroid!


    Anvil 1 and BoomBoom are all that's left, so they line up on each other. Racing forward like medieval jousters, their lances made of laser light. Eventually the run ends in a swirling dogfight.


    BoomBoom loses the fight, with only minor shock as a result, but Anvil 1 has managed to end up behind her. Anvil 1's lasers finally find their mark, and Falling Star 1 explodes!

Mission failure!

After Action

Raven Squadron gains 1 RP for shooting down Anvil 3.
Total RP - 15

Flight leader Sokul and her fighter were recovered, and both a now fine.
Brizzy and her fighter miss the next game, but will be ok.
Melissa and her fighter miss the next game, but will be ok.
Giovanni has died from his injuries. His fighter is lost.

Note: I'm treating the pilots as separate from the fighters, which the normal rules don't do.  So I'm rolling separately for each, once for the fighter, once for the pilot.  Unless they went OoA WITHOUT ejecting, then just roll once. Their fate is tied together.

Adding in the Between Mission Event roll. I'll roll it for 1 character in each squadron.
Wavid Scanilsworth got into a fight in the base.  He's fine, but will be reprimanded after the mission.
Raven squad is all in the hospital at this time, so no roll there.
