I don't remember why I started looking at 1/72 scale heroes. I just did, I poke around the net a lot for all sorts of things for reasons I don't ultimately remember. Whatever, I came across a guys site that talked about super gaming in 1/72, and that the Marvel Dice figures and Zerboz ball figures were about right for that. I then remembered that I had bought a bunch of those ball figures on discount because they were 1/72, and I figured someday I could do something with them.
Monday was that day!
Now, I don't have much in the way of terrain, and absolutely nothing at that scale other than soldiers. Revolution, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam (and some Napoleon era which I have no interest in).
So what to do with supers and soldiers? I know exactly what to do with them.
So I started working the figures. Head and hand swaps, cutting, adding, and a whole lot of work with the Green Stuff. But not a lot of Green Stuff itself, these folks are tiny!
A few years ago (ok, like 15) my brother and I used to make our own video games. The world didn't offer us what we wanted, so we made it ourselves. We had several really good ones, and some not as good. But the relevant one here was Legendary Justice: ETO (European Theater of Operations). IT was a super hero game set in WWII, with the players playing as the members of the Legendary League and fighting vast hordes of nazis, panzer men, and the occasional super villain. It was all very Weird War/ pulp flavored, and it was awesome!
The League. L to R: Kingsman, Barnstormer, Justice, Devil Dodger, Nome de Gurre, Redball, RadGuy, Dogface, Lady Liberty |
Anyway, after a week of working on them off and on, I finally finished the Legendary League in 1/72 scale! Almost. I can't for the life of me find a female figure in this scale that is even remotely close to something I could use. I can do mods, I can do some GS work, but I still need the figure to be at least sort of close to begin with. So for the moment, the League is down one of their more powerful members.
Still, I'm super happy with how they came out.
Barnstormer can summon (or maybe he becomes?) his biplane, so I also built that for him. Dogface changes into a werewolf, and I have a regular werewolf figure to use for that. So I have all the things I need for the team to head into battle! Except Germans!
I have twenty something, but I need to finish the other 70. I intend to use Super Mission Force rules, and in those the Henchmen are 10 figure units, so I'll need quite a few. That's also consistent with the video game. Hordes of guys everywhere!
I'm stating up the figures and as soon as I have the Germans done I am looking forward to a game!
